The National Barn-owl Project
A national project that aims to reduce the use of pesticides in agricultural areas through the use of Barn-owl and Common kestrels as biological pest control in agriculture.

How Does It Work?
To date, 5,000 nesting boxes have been installed in collaboration with hundreds of farmers across Israel. These farmers receive professional guidance and support from regional coordinators for the setup, care, and maintenance of the boxes.

Barn-Owls as Biological Pest Control in Agriculture
The Barn-Owl is the ultimate rodent hunter! With exceptional hearing and night vision, coupled with an incredibly silent flight, it “sees and is not seen” while hunting. Rodents make up to 95% of its diet.
Studies have shown that a family of Barn-Owls can hunt 2,000-5,000 rodents annually. These traits make the Barn-Owl an effective agent for biological pest control in agriculture. Placing nesting boxes in agricultural areas helps balance and reduce harmful rodent populations.
